Today Arianna's mum was in helping and she was in charge of ensuring turns were taken nicely on the Hudl.
At welcome time we did our welcome song and then days of the week song. We then played Simon Says.
In the mid hall today we had the hairdressing equipment out, sensory play which was seeds, cinnamon sticks, wooden sticks, feathers etc as well as the duplo and reading books. Evan, Sam and Jamie made some fantastic worlds out of the duplo.
Snack was oat cakes, apple and melon. The children had to spread their own butter. Milk or water was out for quenching their thirst.
The children made shape pictures using glue and straws. The pictures were very creative and the children are doing so well at recognising shapes and how many sides they have.
At Get Together time Mrs Blain read the story 'Jack and the Flumflum Tree' which the children found hilarious. After this they played the game Bug in a Rug.
For Goodbye time the children wanted to play Simon Says again and then Buddy Bear chose Erica to go with this weekend.
This morning Anton was showing his friends a variety of dinosaurs fro show and tell. He was very knowledgeable about them and was able to explain what they ate. We then turned off the lights and Anton showed us his torch which when shone onto the wall made a silhouette of a dinosaur. Great fun. We continued reinforcing our days of the week and we talked about going outside in the snow.
Mrs Black had some frozen dinosaurs for the messy play today. The dinosaurs were stuck in the middle of an ice block and the children had to try and break them out using different tools. This was very popular.
The kitchen was out along with the dressing up. The reading corner was set up, next to which was a make shift puppet theatre. Mrs Friel was working on the floorbook with some of the children and Mrs Winsley was using the Hudl to teach the children 'heads, shoulders, kees and toes' in French and Japanese. Orlaidh and Katee picked up the Japanese one very quickly.
After snack which was wraps with chicken and tomatoes, we all got ready to go outside and play in the snow. We walked up to the BMX track and had lots of fun with snowballs, playing search and rescue (aka hide'n'seek), making snow angels, cracking the ice puddles and playing tig.
At welcome time this morning Mrs Brown showed the children our new tablet. It is a pink Hudl 2 with a blue cover. The children were talking about how you use a tablet safely. Orlaidh said you have to keep it on the table. Hugh stated that you don't put it on the floor incase you stand on it and smash it. Very wise advice. They talked about how important it is to take turns.
We were split between the two rooms this morning. In the crèche room Miss Wallace and Mrs Friel were doing activities with the laptop, the Lego bricks, fairground and shape sorting.
In the mid-hall Mrs Brown was continuing the rhyming bag but with harder words and then the children were drawing pictures of their favourite rhyming words. For messy play we had cloud dough with glitter through it. The Tolo was out which the children were constructing items with. Jamie and Anton made shapes with them. The kitchen was out for role play. Mrs Winsley was supervising the children playing a game on the Hudl which helped the children with learning positional language.

At Get together time the children chatted about rhyming with Mrs Brown and then voted on which book they would like to have read. The choice was Monkey Puzzle or A Squash and a Squeeze. The majority vote was for Monkey puzzle. The children spoke about what they thought the story was about. As the story progressed the children shouted out the rhyming words.
To finish today we had some action songs. To tie in with the book we did Five Cheeky Monkeys and another favourite was Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes.
Today at welcome time we sang our days of the week song and then we heard about Erica`s weekend away. "I went to uncle Tim`s house, he has 2 cats pocket and pixie, but Pixie is a wild cat and they eat rabbits. I went on a treasure hunt in the garden and I had to use a treasure map, I used a spade to dig and found chocolate coins".
The boys and girls were working on the floorbook, we were talking about the different modes of transport the police use. We also played a physical game and had to listen out for the mode of transport and then pretend to be driving/riding that mode of transport. Arianna said "the police use a boat to catch baddies in boats if they steal ducks".
Snack today was toasted wholemeal bagel with cheese spread and cucumber with a choice of milk or water.
At group time the red diamonds were writing stories and drawing pictures and discussed the roles of the author and illustrator.
The yellow circles were tracing shapes on a chalkboard with a wet sponge. They were counting the sides on each shape.
The blue squares were playing with the puppets and then put on a puppet show for some of their peers.
At together time the children voted for which story they would like to hear, they chose between "Topsy and Tim meet the police", "PC Polly", and "A day in the life of a police officer". Topsy and Tim had the most votes and as we read the story we looked out for the different modes of transport.
This morning the boys and girls were talking about the days of the week, what is today? what was yesterday? and what is tomorrow? They are doing really well at picking up the correct order of the days. Some of the children showed their home link diary Police Officers to the other children. The Police Officers are super. Jamie's had a 'wow wow' (siren) on a zig zag road.
The mouldable foam with shape formation cards was out for messy play today. The balance beam was out for physical play. The kitchen and dress up were out for role play. We had some new blackboards today in the writing corner. The puppets and books were out in the reading corner.
