This morning at welcome time the children sang days of the week and our weather song.  The children took turns to tell us what the weather was like as they came to nursery and what they had to wear.  Mrs Blain then told the children about the adult led activities that would be taking place in both rooms.

Mrs Blain was supporting the children to spell their name.  The letters were in a variety of shapes and then the children were asked to identify the letters and the shape they were in, the children can describe the properties of the basic shapes and some children can confidently describe the properties of a pentagon, hexagon and octagon.
Snack today was oatcakes, melon and apple with a choice of milk or water.

In the creche room Mrs Brown was assisting the children to make cloud number pictures.  The children were identifying the number on their cloud and then glue down the correct amount of raindrops.  Some of the boys and girls are really good at recognising numbers up to 15.

We also had Lego, sensory soapclouds, hairdressers and article small world play out.

We also had a visit from Louise from Child's mile who played a game about smiles.  The children looked at cards with only the smile visible and had to guess who the smile belonged to.

At together time the children made a large circle and took turns to hold wool to create large shapes.  This helped the children to see how many edges and corners they have and if the edges are the same size.

The children then voted for the last Julia Donaldson story they wanted to hear.  The children voted for "the snail and the whale".  Now we have read 6 Julia Donaldson stories the children will be doing book reviews next week and a graph to see which was the favourite.

Have a good weekend.

For welcome time today we were discussing the weather and what clothes we had to wear to come to nursery today. Mrs Friel then did some French songs with the children and they practiced the numbers 1-5 in French. They are picking it up really well.
Today we had the painting easel, play dough and water tray out for messy play. The kitchen and dress up were out in the house corner for role play. The dolls house and little ponies were out for small world play. The writing table was set up along with the large chalk boards. The balance beam was out for physical play.
We were due to have a visit from the Fire Brigade today but unfortunately they couldn't make it due to a technical fault with the appliance, so it's rescheduled for 17th March.
Mrs Brown was working on the floorbook with the children. They were recording their weather observations from yesterday's trip to the park.
Snack was wraps with chicken and tomatoes along with milk or water to drink.
At Group time today the red diamonds were doing a science experiment with Mrs Black that involved baby oil, honey and coloured water; the yellow circles were using the magnetic letters to make their names and the blue squares played a board game called rain or shine which they loved.

For Get Together time the children discussed what they had been doing today and then Mrs Friel read the story 'One warm Fox' after which the children choose to play 'What's the time Mr Wolf?'. This took us to Goodbye time. The children are doing so well at independently getting ready to go home.

At welcome time the children did their days of the week song and then went on to discuss the weather. Evan had brought in a fantastic book ' What is weather?' which Mrs Brown read the first page to the children. They also covered what are risks? talking about risks at the park and when the weather is cold it could be icy outside, how do we keep safe.
We were split over the two rooms today;
Mid hall
We had the magnetic boards with numbers, kitchen and food, puppets, blocks of ice with items inside which the children had to try and break out, Mrs Brown was using the Hudl with the children to take videos of them singing. Emma had brought in two microphones which the children enjoyed using. Table top games and puzzles were also out.
Crèche room
Mrs Friel and Miss Wallace were helping the children to use musical instruments to sing songs and practice keeping in time with the beat. The mini white boards were also out along with some puzzles.

Snack was a choice of cornflakes or cherries with milk or water to drink.
We went out to the BMX track and had a lot of fun running around, jumping in the puddles, imagining with sticks and exploring. The children found a broom which some of them used to sweep around the track, others found a deflated football but it didn't stop them from trying to play with it. Sarah, Phoebe, Daniel and Kai were very good at kicking it and running after it. Mrs Brown was encouraging the children to talk about the weather as this is our new topic.
Once we were back from the park we managed to squeeze in a Julia Donaldson story for Goodbye Time. Today it was Charlie Cook's favourite book.

This morning the boys and girls were very lucky to have a visit from a local police officer, Richard.  Richard discussed road safety and stranger danger.  The children practised crossing the road at a zebra crossing and if a stranger approaches them to STOP and TELL.  Orlaidh could tell the police officer that a stranger is "someone you don't know".  The children also showed Richard our floor book and he was very impressed by how much the children knew about the police.  The children then took turns to try on the police hat and handcuffs.
Snack today was wholemeal bagels with cheese spread and cucumber with a choice of milk or water.  The children are making great progress serving their own snack and spreading their cheese spread.

All the children took turns to answer a question for our new floor book topic, Weather.  Mrs Blain asked "what is weather?"  We had some great answers; clouds, rain, sun, snow, storms, wind and hailstones.  Erica said "the rain comes from the clouds I think its going to rain later because the sky is grey."

Most of the boys and girls used popoids to make a variety of models and then used the tablet to take pictures of their fantastic creations to record their experience.

At physical time the children had a cloud race.  The boys and girls used straws to blow cotton wool all they way to the finish line.  Well done to Kai who was very fast.  We then used feathers and were blowing them to find out all about the wind and forces.

At story time we read "Rosie's hat", which is another story by Julie Donaldson and also suited our weather topic.

At welcome time this morning we had a chat about our journey books and how the children are encouraged to look over these whenever they want with a member of staff. We also talked about the importance of flushing the toilet after we've finished. We then did our days of the week and the weather chart.
On the floor we had the climbing frame out, the water tray, the coloured rice, the kitchen was set up along with dress up and the dolls. The cars were out beside the dolls house. We had musical instruments out for the children to participate in.
Snack was crackers with cheese and tangerine segments.
Today the blue squares shared their weekend news at group time. The yellow circles used the Hudl to listen to different types of music and share how it made them feel. The red diamonds played a shape pairs game.
At Get Together time the children had an important job to do - vote on our next topic. They had the choice of hobbies, weather and animals. Mrs Brown had set out a variety of objects relating to the choices and the children had to use their voting sticks to choose which they would like. The animals got no votes, hobbies got 5 and weather had 12. So our next topic is Weather.
For Goodbye time Mrs Brown read the story 'Superworm'. Erica stated that this was her favourite Julia Donaldson book so far.
