Hi folks...Yesterday in nursery we were learning all about Tian Tian and Yang Guang, the pandas from China, who are on loan at present to Edinburgh Zoo. The children were very good at pronouncing the panda's Chinese names and even managed to wish each other a Happy New Year in Chinese...GUNG HEY FAI CHOI. So today, to continue with our Chinese New Year celebrations we had noodles for snack. Some of the children even used chop sticks to eat them. They went down a treat with most of the children. Afterwards, we had our normal snack, wholemeal bread with butter, strawberries and banana with a choice of milk or water to drink. Well fed children in nursery today....I think!
Some of the children were serving up some delicious Chinese food in the house corner, lots of sushi, rice and fortune cookies. Holly and Isla really looked the part dressed in their beautiful Chinese dresses.
The panda enclosure that the children built yesterday was out again. Today Robbie and Matthew R built diggers with the construction and were using these to help move the bamboo around in the panda enclosure.
Mrs Winsley and the children worked in the floor book. They were exploring polar bears and their natural habitat. They made a great Artic freeze, painting everything in sight white.....even Mrs Winsley looked a bit white when they were finished!
At Physical time we all played Big Brown Bear, but we changed it a little. Instead of having a brown bear we had a black and white panda. And instead of eating honey it was eating bamboo shoots! The children were very good at singing the new words, but Mrs Black got a little mixed up!
It was a very busy day today as we were two teachers down, poor Miss Steven isn't very well and Miss Smith was away on a course. But we didn't have to worry..... Monica, Anna and Oscar stepped up to the plate and dried all the snack dishes for Mrs Blain.....thank you children!
See you all tomorrow!

We discovered that panda's enjoy climbing, they eat lots of bamboo, they like to play, their teeth and claws are very sharp and they are dangerous.

We had a fun time playing this morning with all the resources in the playroom. Anna, Sophia, Finn and Flynn were laughing as they pushed cars down the twister on the garage. Oscar and Stellan were pretending to be dinosaurs chasing Katie and Holly! They had to be reminded to use walking feet inside ; )
After we had all had snack (a choice of cereal) we ventured into the garden. The sun was shining but it was cold. We had the natural logs, pebbles, shells, painting sticks, chalk, mud kitchen and den building equipment out. We didn't realise how windy it was until we decided to try and build a den with a large tarpaulin!!! The children enjoyed being out in the garden again.
Once we were back inside and warmed up Mrs Black did reflection time. The children spoke about what they are going to be upto over the weekend. Buddy Bear chose to go home with Stellan.
Please remember we are off on Monday and Tuesday for holiday and then Wednesday is an in-service day so closed to children. Thanks.
