At welcome time this morning as well as talking about the weather and days of the week Mrs Blain was teaching us some sign language. The children were fascinated. They learnt hello, stand up, sit down and thank you.
We were split between the two rooms today. Mrs Blain was in the crèche room with the children making graduation hats. We had a new tub of Duplo out for construction donated to us by Greenlees nursery which the children enjoyed. There were also some new table top games, one was a bead threading activity which was very popular.
Mrs Brown was in the mid-hall working on developing the children's alphabet recognition, upper and lower case. The children had to choose their favourite letter and then draw pictures of items that started with that letter,
On the floor we had the kitchen out along with the sitting room chairs. The reading corner was full of books. The water tray was out with lots of items for pouring and filling, The new wooden train set was out for construction and new table top puppet theatre, both donated to us from Greenlees nursery.
Snack was cream crackers with apple and melon chunks along with water or milk to drink.
At Get Together time Mrs Blain read the story 'Grandma Baa', a funny rhyming story which the children enjoyed. Then we rehearsed our graduation songs before home time.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Welcome back, I hope everyone had a lovely weekend!
The children all seemed happy to be back in nursery this morning. The time is running away. Only four weeks of preschool left :-(
At welcome time we filled in our days of the week chart and our weather chart. Then we chose our helping hands and our messy officer for today. The children were all keen to share their news of what they got up to over the weekend. Iris went to the beach, she built a sandcastle and decorated it with shells. Phoebe went to the park and had a sleepover with Gran and Granda. Hugh went to the park and played on a bouncy castle and Lucie went to the Safari Park and got her face painted as a zebra.
There were lots of things out to play with this morning. We had the number cubes and the shape bean bags out in the maths area. Lots of writing materials and our Environmental print book at the writing table. For science and investigation it was the binoculars and the kaleidoscopes.. Mrs Black had made her lovely coloured rice to play with. There was beautiful baby pink water with glitter in it. The balancing beams for physical and lots, lots more.
Snack was bagle with soft cheese, cucumber and tomato with a choice of milk or water to drink.
At physical time we played musical islands to our Lazy Town CD. The boys and girls enjoyed this and wanted to dance to the music when our game was over.
We continued to work on our props for our show and just before it was home time we practised our show. We're all very enthusiastic about this!
What a busy morning!
At welcome time we sang our days of the week song, discussed the weather and decided who our helping hands would be for today. We also talked about our senses:-
Jamie's favourite smell is orange jelly
Iris' favourite smell is flowers
Kai likes the taste of sweet strawberries
Orlaidh doesn't like the taste of strawberry jelly
Sam likes to look at Evan
Phoebe doesn't like the feel of wool because it gives her skelves
Daniel likes the sound of the drums
We started to make our props for our graduation show this morning. The children worked hard painting all the things. Now we just have to decorate them.
Snack today was pitta bread, houmous, carrots and cucumber with a choice of milk or water to drink.
We had lots of resources out to play with......kinetic sand with cars and trucks in it, green water with lots of animals, sorting objects and balancing scales, table top games building our turn taking and sharing skills, alphabet puzzles and small words on our literacy table, popoid construction , and lots lots more.
When it came to practising our show the boys and girls had no excuses for not singing well because we had heard fantastic singing coming from them earlier when they were using the microphones.
This morning there was a lot of news from the boys and girls. Katee and Phoebe shared what exciting presents they received at their party on Sunday. Jamie shared about his holiday to Arran and read a poem that he and his Dad had wrote.
Today we had the soft play items out which the children really enjoyed. The house corner was set up along with the dressing up box. The wonder box was out today with torches and opaque octagons for the children to explore what happens when the torch is shone through. The water tray was out with items that float or sink. Play dough was out for malleable.
Snack was vanilla yoghurt with grapes and pears along with milk or water to drink. Mrs Adams was in helping us today.
Mrs Brown was working on the floorbook with children learning about the different types of wind. They made a paper kite and had to choose what number of bows to put on their ribbon.
At Get together time the children played a musical game. WHen the music stopped Mrs Brown would shout 'breeze, gale or hurricane' and the children had to act how they would be blown around.
The rest of the morning was spent rehearsing the graduation show.
This morning at welcome time we did our days of the week song and some of the children performed it in-front of their friends. There was a video message from Jamie who has been away on holiday to the isle of Arran but was missing his friends. Mrs Brown then informed the children of the activities available today.
As the children were very excited by seeing Jamie on the computer, Mrs Brown said the children could make a short video about something exciting over the weekend, to email to Mrs Winsley, to view on Monday.
In the mid-hall Mrs Blain was working on the MYSELF statements with the children. Today they were drawing pictures of what they are successful at. Daniel did a great picture of him swimming in the swimming pool, Katee did one of her performing a cartwheel and Sarah did one of her walking in the park. Please look out for our pictures displayed on the corridor wall.
In the crèche room Mrs Brown was introducing the children to the letters of the alphabet. She had pictures that corresponded with the letters and the children were singing a song to practice the letter sounds. Erica said that the egg for 'e' made her feel hungry.
Also in the crèche room the wonder box was out which had the large magnet in it and the children had to sort the items as to whether or not they were magnetic. The lego was out for construction and a shape/colour sorting game.
For physical time the children played with the giant scrunchie and had to listen to a song to do the actions with it - in and out, up and down.
At Get Together time Mrs Blain was consolidating what the children had been learning about being successful. The story 'Max's school dinner' was then read.
