At welcome time this morning we sang our welcome song. The children were able to sing it perfectly to Mrs Blain. Mrs Blain was then chatting about our tongues and how important they are. This led to the children looking in a mirror at their tongues to see the taste buds.
In the mid-hall today we had the kitchen out, the reading corner, the play sand, the wooden blocks and the cars with garage. In the water tray we had something very fun - making ice-cream (pretend) using cotton wool balls that were different scents and coloured rice. The children loved making each other ice creams, some used spoons as wafers! Great imaginations.
Mrs Brown was doing a taste activity. The children had cubes of raw potato and apple to try. They were not very fond of the potato!!
In the crèche room the safari duplo was out, the number blocks and some activity books. Mrs Blain was also doing a taste activity. The children tried vinegar, lemon essence, olives, popcorn and jam. They had to decide whether the flavours were salty, sweet or sour and give them a thumbs up or down. They were very good at trying news things - some of the faces pulled when trying the vinegar were priceless!!
For physical time we were practicing our dressing up race for sports day. The children found it very funny. This took us upto home time.
Today at welcome time we listened to news from Anton, Iris and Kai. Anton told us about his favourite toys the dinosaurs, Iris told us about her lovely necklace that her mum bought from the shops and Kai told us all about what he is going to do on his holiday. We also talked about our visit from Stevie the Karate coach, Evan demonstrated how to kick and punch, Kerr told us that Karate comes from Japan, Phoebe counted from 1-10 in Japanese and Sarah said that Karate is good exercise.
For snack we had wraps with grated cheese and tomatoes, with milk or water to drink.
Mrs Friel was helping the boys and girls to make Father's Day cards, some of children have not made one yet but will do it next week. Mrs Brown was playing a sensory game with the children using their hands to feel objects under a towel and guess what the objects were.
At physical time we had a vote to decide what game to play, it was 9 votes for Big Brown Bear and 7 votes for Duck Duck Goose.
We then practised our graduation show using some of our new props.
Today we were in the mid-hall until 10.30 and then we managed to get out to the park.
In the mid-hall we had the sand try out, the kitchen, the reading corner, our new safari duplo set (donated by Greenlees nursery) and some table top games.
When we arrived a the park we split into groups and did a combination of jogging and walking around the park until we arrived at the play area. It was a super morning and the children had great fun.
We got back to the hall and had a very quick snack as it was time to go home!!
What a quiet morning!
Today alot of the boys and girls were at another open day at Calderwood Primary. We had only 9 boys and 2 girls in nursery.
At welcome time the children played a game of Hide n Seek with News Dog. They were very good at finding him. In the dolls house, on the blocks, behind the chair he was even hiding under Mrs Brown's hat.
In our messy corner we had sand and water out. Today it was berry teabags that were in the water. The children enjoyed pouring and filling using the teapot and cups. We had to remember just to pretend to drink the water as it smelled so delicious.
For physical we had out the balancing beams and later in the morning the boys had fun throwing the beanbags into the hula hoops.
Snack today was bagle, cream cheese and cucumber with a choice of milk or water to drink.
In the maths area we had our new bead puzzle out. The children were very good at copying the pattern on the cards.
Mrs Brown and the boys and girls played with the opposite picture and word cards. They all managed to correctly match the opposite pictures and words.
Phoebe and Arianna made beautiful fish hand print pictures to take home for their Mummys.
At story time Mrs Blain read I'm Absolutely Too Little To Go To School.
Just before home time we practiced one of our show songs that we are having a little difficulty with and guess what.......the boys and girls were super singing it!
At welcome time this morning Mrs Blain was going over the days of the week and then the children spoke about where they are going on holiday. Orlaidh said she is going to a caravan park, Jamie told us he has to wake up at 5am to leave for his holiday.
For malleable we had the cloud dough out and the water tray had tea bags in it with tea pots. The boys enjoyed playing with this. The Easi speak microphones were out at the science table. We had the wooden train set, the castle, the wooden blocks and the poly M were out.
Mrs Brown was doing painting by sound with the children at the creative table. The children enjoyed this.
Snack today was cream crackers with orange segments and apple slices along with milk or water to drink.
At physical time today we had a visit from Stevie who spent half an hour teaching the children karate. They loved learning the moves, punching and kicking and how to count to 10 in Japanese.
We finished the day by rehearsing our graduation show.
