Hi folks...When the children arrived in nursery today they were quick to come over and brush their teeth. They are all very good at identifying which colour of bus they are on, the colour of their toothbrush and the picture on it. The large Lego bricks are on the floor this week, they are very popular and lots of time is being spent at them building towers, robots and rockets!
At Welcome time we have been talking about the seasons. The children are all talking about the signs of Autumn they've seen when out and about.
The children are still exploring the Healthy Eatwell Plate. Today they were talking about 'protein' and can tell you it helps you grow and makes you strong. At snack time they were having a little taste of chicken, which is on our protein part of the plate.
For real snack it was crackers with butter or cheese, cucumber sticks and oranges with a choice of milk or water to drink.
Mrs Blain and the children continued to work in the floor book. It was portraits we were looking at today. We discussed the difference between portraits and self-portraits, had a good look at ourselves in the mirror and then drew self-portraits. They turned out fab!
Mrs Brown was measuring and recording all the children's heights today. We're going to keep our chart in a safe place and measure their heights again in a couple of months, to see how much they've grown.
At Physical Time Miss Smith and the children got dancing to the Sticky Kids CD.
See you tomorrow!
Hello everyone. There was lots of experiences on offer today at nursery. The large Lego bricks were popular today. The children were building lots of intere#ting things today, some of the boys were building a car take them on holiday and Monica and Scarlett were building a cot for some of the babies to go in.
Mrs Winsley and some of the children made play dough with sparkles in it and used the insect accessories to make weird and wonderful insects.
At physical time we were dancing to the music using scarves and bean bags pretending to be the Autumn leaves falling off the trees. We danced to fast music then talked about how our heart felt. Most children said it was really fast, then we slowed down dancing to slower music and felt our heart beat again and everyone noticed the difference.
At snack time we were learning all about protein foods such as baked beans, tuna and kidney beans some of the children tried tuna with mayonnaise. 😄
Snack today was bagel with cream cheese, carrot sticks, banana with milk or water for drinking.
At reflection time Anna told all of the children about her fun adventures at the weekend with buddy bear. Well done Anna.
Have a good evening see you all tomorrow for lots more fun and learning.
Happy Friday everybody, the children came floating in like autumn leaves in the wind this morning. There was lots of fun learning going on with Reuben, Scarlett and Monica helping Mrs Blain feed the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Elias and Scott were cooking up some lovely sand soup and listening to the waves in the shells and Grace had lots of ironing to do, including ironing out the wrinkles in Mrs Black's arms!
Some of the children went for a walk to the BMX park and we were very lucky with the weather. Although we could see very dark clouds, the sun came out and there was a rainbow in the sky. Murdo had to wait for a while on a bus but Nieve's train arrived at the station quite quickly and Matthew was able to take the train to Rutherglen. Tom was sweeping up the leaves (so no excuses for the train to be late!!!) and Rory was taking a trip up and down the mountains and also round the block.
Miss Smith had some very hungry children when snack came out - cereal so lots of carbohydrates to give us energy. The children were choosing between Rice Krispies, Weetabix or Cheerios and ate it all up.
At Reflection Time Mrs Friel was proud to present Isla with her Responsible Citizen award and Sophia with her Successful Learner award - well done to both of you! Anna was feeling very happy as Buddy Bear is going to have a sleepover at her house this weekend - have lots of fun Buddy and don't forget to tell us all about your adventures.
A huge THANK YOU to everybody who turned up to our AGM last night we really appreciate the time you spend helping our nursery and we look forward to working with the committee this year.
Have a fabulous weekend and we will see you back here on Monday morning.
What a busy day with lots of learning going on. When the children arrived at nursery they gave their teeth a good brush, the children are learning which picture is on their toothbrush.
At welcome time it was Nieve's turn for show and tell. Nieve brought in her build a bear, Elsa. Nieve told all her friends about how she helped to put the fluff into the bear and it sits on her pillow once her bed is made. Nieve was very good at answering all her friends questions and also let all her friends feel how soft and fluffy her teddy was.
Snack was breadsticks, yoghurt and pear. As they were eating snack they were looking at the YELLOW part of the healthy eating plate, the CARBOHYDRATES. The children are learning about which foods belong to this group and that they provide us with ENERGY.
For the floorbook we are continuing to learn about ART we have been looking at symmetrical pictures this week. The children were given half a picture and they were drawing on the other side to make it a symmetrical picture. They were using mirrors too to look at their faces to see if they were symmetrical too.
At physical time we danced using ribbons, scarves and musical instruments, it was lots of fun and the children were very good at turn taking.
At reflection time we looked at the shape family and counted how many sides each shape had and learned a new shape. Danny Diamond and we learned that the sides are DIAGONAL.
Today some of the children went out to the park on an Autumn walk to look for signs of Autumn. The children found leaves on the ground, acorns, blue bells and bumble bees. The children talked about the weather becoming chillier and that the Autumn months are September, October and November. The children said that the leaves on the trees turn brown and fall off the trees.
Snack today was wholemeal thins, sliced apples, houmous with milk or water to drink. Sara very kindly volunteered to help Miss Smith to dry the plates and cups.
The children enjoyed doing a drama activity for our book of the month 'the very hungry caterpillar' by Eric Carle, some of the children could tell Mrs Friel that the author 'writes' the words in the book. Our activity was to act out the different parts of the story and to add the different food that the caterpillar ate to a felt board to tell the story of how it turned into a beautiful butterfly. We pretended to be the small egg, then we moved around slowly like the little caterpillar, we then ate all of the different fruits and treats becoming a really big caterpillar. And after sleeping in a cocoon for two weeks we moved our bodies just like a beautiful butterfly.
