This morning at welcome time we were discussing who keeps us safe and who to talk to if we feel upset or worried about something.
Being Friday we were split into the two rooms. We all stayed in the mid-hall for the first half of the session. Mrs Brown was doing hand painting and turning our hand prints into Fireman. It was a lot of fun. For messy play we had a real pumpkin that had it's top cut off. The children were to put their hands inside and pull out the seeds and flesh. A few of them ventured in!!
At snack time Mrs Black had prepared some pumpkin soup to try with bread and butter, apple and tangerine. A good number of the children tried the soup with varying reactions...
Some of the children went into the crèche room where we had various threading activities that enhanced their fine motor skills and produced a number of necklaces for Mrs Winsley. There was also the chalk board, fire engine, jigsaws and books.
At group time we did a number of action songs then Buddy Bear decided who he wanted to stay with this weekend. Kia was chosen because he said he was going to play crazy golf and Buddy wanted to do that to.
For goodbye time we read the story Room on the Broom and the children were to shout out when they recognised rhyming words. They were super at this. Have a great weekend.
Well today was a different day...all the boys and girls were dressed up in fantastic costumes. We had a lot of fun.
We made Halloween cards, we had Halloween stickers to make pictures, there were bats and ghosts to make. We then had a slightly different snack.
Snack had some pom bears, chocolate pumpkins, jelly sweets mixed in with the apples and tangerines!! There was also blackcurrant juice as well as our normal milk and water.
We then had party games - musical statues, musical bumps, musical chairs, ducking for apples (using the technique of dropping forks). After all the action to 'cool down' we had the story Angelina's Halloween and then we watched Sesame Street Fury Potter and the Cookie goblet.
Lots of FUN
At welcome time today the children filled out two risk assessment forms. We were discussing what can harm us when we go to the park and then how can we keep safe. The second one was specifically for den building - being poked by sticks, falling in the mud and getting it up our nose!
We then ventured to the park with tarpaulin , rope and clothes pegs. When we first arrived we sang The Mulberry Bush and We are all going on a Bear Hunt. The staff with the children's help put up rope between the trees, some of the children collected sticks to pin up the tarpaulin, some of them climbed the trees, some just ran around in the leaves. It was a lot of fun. Once the den was built we stood underneath and had a breadstick each.
Once back at the nursery we washed our hands, had snack which was cereal with milk or water, had a little bit of a playtime then it was goodbye time. We read the story 'Winnie the witch goes on holiday'.
At welcome time today we had news time. Katee told us how last night on the way to swimming she was stopped by the police because of a big fire and the smoke was blowing over her Daddy's car. Daniel was quick to say that the police help close the road to stop cars and people burning. This led to a chat about the police and firefighters. We also did our days of the week song.
The climbing frame was up today for the children to have fun on. Some of the boys and girls were being firefighters, climbing the frame with their hose and putting out fires. Lots of fun.
The groups were busy today; Miss Wallace took the red diamonds who practiced their scissor skills cutting out the bones of a skeleton and gluing it together; Mrs Black took the blue squares and they were learning about listening by making their own plastic cup telephones and Mrs Brown had the yellow circles who were learning facts about firefighters and the importance of the uniform.
Snack was strawberry yoghurt with banana, apples and the choice of water or milk. For those who didn't like the yoghurt there were breadsticks.
Mrs Brown was working with the children on the floorbook, Some made a fire with yellow and orange paper squares and others drew pictures of firemen, Sam wrote in the emergency phone number 999. The boys and girls are doing so well learning all about people who help us.
At goodbye time we used our voting sticks to determine which book to read. The children chose 'A day in the life of a firefighter' a fact book. We also did an action song Five little firefighters. We then reminded ourselves of Moby and sitting well so we listen and learn.
At welcome time we heard about Buddy's visit to Katee's house over the weekend. He had a great time. We also had news from Sarah who had her birthday party on Saturday and had a Peppa and George cake. mmm
After welcome time we had a visit from Mrs Muir. She is our Educational Support worker, Mrs Muir is going to be teaching all of us the SULP (social understanding and language programme). Today we met Moby the friendly monster who taught us about good sitting and listening. The children enjoyed hearing the story of Moby.
We had our Doctor's surgery up again today. Mrs Brown was teaching through role play about health visitors and paramedics. We were also adding pictures to our floorbook.
For physical play we had the large lego blocks out. Katee and Hugh were making chocolate towers and pretending to lick them. Hugh then made a sofa. Messy play was the water trough with some toys, squirty ducks.
Today at snack we had to make our own healthy sandwiches. The children got to choose some cucumber, cheese and apples and make their own sandwiches.
We had auditions for our nativity play. The children listened to the songs and those who wanted to auditioned for special parts. Parts will be given out tomorrow. At goodbye time we had the story 'The ambulance team', a fact book. We then sang 5 cheeky monkeys jumping on the bed and we had a child dressed as the doctor.
A busy morning............
