  HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!

It was a spooky day at nursery with spiders and snakes in the water tray, ghost pictures at the craft table and lots of scary music.
The children all looked fab in their costumes we had bats, superheroes, princesses, ninjas witches, Alice in Wonderland, Teenage mutant ninja turtles, bats, builders, pumpkins, ghosts and robots to name a few.  We will upload pictures to the website during the week.
We had a party snack today and we all sat together at a big long table and ate tortilla chips, grapes, carrot sticks, cheese and party ring biscuits.  Some children also tried some pumpkin soup which was very yummy.
After snack we threw some fantastic shapes on the dance floor as we played musical bumps then musical statues and musical chairs.
We then took turns to duck for apples and all the children got an apple, some even got it on their first attempt.  As we were tired from all that dancing we sat and ate our apples and listened to a story called Winnie the Witch.

There was lots of resources to play with today; the house corner was turned into a shop selling lots of food, the writing table had food magazines, scissors and glue the children had fun cutting pictures out and sticking them onto colourful paper. We had green water with spooky fingers and spiders in the water trough, the wooden dolls house, duplo bricks, painting easel, sand and dinosaurs plus lots more.

Lots of parents came into nursery today to help their child make pizza, fruit kebabs and to look at the Food floorbook and their childs journey book. The children will decide and start on a new topic shortly.

Snack today was toast with cheesy triangles and apple with milk or water to drink.

At Reflection Time the children thought about what they liked about nursery; Ros said that she liked the book about the witch, Melody liked seeing her mum in nursery and Logan enjoyed playing with his friends.

Story sacks went out today with parents and should be returned next Thursday morning to nursery.

We had lots of fun at nursery today with all our favourites out in the playroom for the children to enjoy.  The water tray was a lovely vivid green again with scary spiders and other beastly insect lurking around in the depths.  Edward had so much playing in it that all the spiders ran up his arm and Melody was making soup (I think ) - yuck!!

Leon, Ruari, and Cody were building fantastic spaceships with the Duplo - Millennium Falcon eat your heart out, I think the boys will be getting a call from NASA soon with their engineering skills.

We had Doctor Katie, Fireman Oscar and PC Craig  looking after us in the house corner and the teachers all felt much better knowing that they were there protecting us.

Jack, Jasmine and Olivia were first up to the creative table to see what Mrs Black was up to.  We had great fun making our "Happy Diwali" cards and the children loved decorating their handprints with mendhi patterns using lots of glitter.

Mrs Brown and Miss Smith were out in the garden for the whole morning, not the warmest place to be, and were enjoying the children's game of hide and seek.  I don't think there were too many places for the children to hide out there but they had lots of fun playing the game anyway.  Euan was whizzing about on the balance bikes and there was a lot of scootering going on too, anything to keep warm I suspect!!

Mrs Friel was keeping us all well fed today with tasty cereal.  She was also busy making out two certificates for two clever girls, Jasmine and Anna.  Both girls slept right through the night and Anna got dressed all by herself - Well done girls.  If your children have any special achievements please let us know and they can have their photos on our Achievements Wall.

At Reflection Time some of the children learned a new Hallowe'en song with a bit of a fright at the end of it.  We practiced it ready for the other children coming back from the garden and we sang it to them when they came back into the room - Ros thought this was lots of fun!

We hope you can all make it along tomorrow for our pizza and fruit kebabs making session, the children are all looking forward to creating some delectable feasts.  See you tomorrow.

Out in the playroom today we had the wooden dolls house and furniture, cogs and wheels, stepping stairs and hopscotch mat, balancing beams, water with scary ghosts, bats and fingers in it, sand and diggers and much more! Some children were having great fun 'baking' birthday cakes in the house corner whilst others were exploring the creepy cobwebs and Halloween resources in the investigation corner.  Jack and Melody had super fun picking all the spiders out of the cobwebs!
Miss Smith and the children were working in the floor book, they were discussing allergies. Elijah was great at explaining his allergies to the other children.
Snack today was oatcakes, apple and strawberries with a choice of milk or water to drink.
Mrs Brown was reading lots of Halloween stories to the children in the book corner. I think their favourite Halloween story is Room on the Broom....I believe most children know this story word for word! Afterwards they all sang 5 Little Pumpkins and talked about what they're dressing up as for Halloween.
We were all having a brilliant time joining in the celebrations of Diwali. Mrs Blain shared a book all about Diwali, explaining to the children all the different activities that goes on during the festival. You probably noticed all the children's beautiful Rangoli patterns outside the door when you arrived at nursery. These patterns are drawn to welcome everyone to your home (or nursery in our case).
For physical we had something a bit special, today we were dancing with Dandia Sticks to Indian music. All children and staff loved it, it was so much fun!
It was Sophia's turn for Show and Tell this week. She brought in a Chewbacca mask from the Star Wars film. Sophia used her big girl voice and was super at telling the boys and girls all about her mask and showing them how it talked!
Just before we went home we had time to reflect on our session. The children were asked "Did you learn anything new today"? Oscar replied      "Yes, if Elijah eats nuts he'll be sick"! Ros told Mrs Blain she now knows what a Rangoli pattern is!
The majority of the children agreed that their favourite part of the session was dancing with the Dandia Sticks!
I wonder what fun tomorrow will bring!

Welcome back to nursery, hope everyone had a lovely October break.  There was lots of experiences on the floor today such as green water with lots of scary Halloween things hiding in it, sand, wooden doll's house, puppets, number games on the tablet, halloween jigsaws and books, dominoes, threading games and wheels & cogs.
The children were very creative today when they made cheese sandwiches.  We sorted out lots of skittles by colour and then added water and stirred them.  The children were amazed to see the water change colour and the skittles turn white.  We then painted the bread and discussed how this paint is edible.  We then took turns to grate the cheese and butter the bread to make our colourful sandwiches.
Snack was bagels with cheese triangles or butter and banana with a choice of milk or water.
There were lots of Halloween items out today and the children enjoyed filling up the caldrons and wearing witches hats.  This sparked a discussion about what they will dress up as for Halloween and trick or treating fun.
Some children went into the garden and explored seaweed and pebbles, there was also the pirate ship, the castle and chalk.
At Get Together Time the children told us about the exciting activities they did over the October week.  Ros told us she visited her Grandparents and had a picnic and Cody told us he watched the Lego Movie with his family.  Then we sang 5 orange pumpkins sitting on the wall.

Tomorrow it is Sophia's turn for Show and Tell.
