Our Halloween party yesterday was a great success. All the children looked great in their costumes.....I wish I could say the same about the teachers:-)
On the floor this week we have dolls and dressing up in the house corner. The children have been busy cooking and baking in the kitchen, cutting up the wooden pizza and birthday cake to share with their friends (fractions).
We have Halloween books in the book corner, and lots of Halloween materials on the creative table. For sensory and messy play it's orange play dough, coloured rice with fingers, bats and spiders, and in the water tray it's slimey pumpkins!
Our giant peg board and wooden number maze is on the maths mat which is proving to be very popular. In the investigation area we are still exploring the musical instruments, but today, we had a creepy cobweb den full of spiders to sit in whilst playing them.
Our borrowed Kapla bricks arrived today.... a whole one thousand of them! The children were very creative making houses and castles with them.
Miss Smith and the children used the Kapla bricks to explore sequence pattern. It was a little bit tricky at first but the children soon got the hang of it.
Snack was wholemeal toast with butter, banana and strawberries with a choice of milk or water to drink.
For physical we had great fun playing '5 Little Witches' flying around the room. Afterwards, we sang some Halloween action songs. We all sang The Witches of Halloween, Mrs Blain was a bit silly and gave everyone a big fright....it was very funny though and the children wanted her to do it again, and again!
At Reflection time we discussed the days of the week and talked about what we were all getting up to tonight. Miss Smith then read the children one of the Funny Bones stories....Bump in the Night!
