At welcome time today we had news time. Katee told us how last night on the way to swimming she was stopped by the police because of a big fire and the smoke was blowing over her Daddy's car. Daniel was quick to say that the police help close the road to stop cars and people burning. This led to a chat about the police and firefighters. We also did our days of the week song.
The climbing frame was up today for the children to have fun on. Some of the boys and girls were being firefighters, climbing the frame with their hose and putting out fires. Lots of fun.
The groups were busy today; Miss Wallace took the red diamonds who practiced their scissor skills cutting out the bones of a skeleton and gluing it together; Mrs Black took the blue squares and they were learning about listening by making their own plastic cup telephones and Mrs Brown had the yellow circles who were learning facts about firefighters and the importance of the uniform.
Snack was strawberry yoghurt with banana, apples and the choice of water or milk. For those who didn't like the yoghurt there were breadsticks.
Mrs Brown was working with the children on the floorbook, Some made a fire with yellow and orange paper squares and others drew pictures of firemen, Sam wrote in the emergency phone number 999. The boys and girls are doing so well learning all about people who help us.
At goodbye time we used our voting sticks to determine which book to read. The children chose 'A day in the life of a firefighter' a fact book. We also did an action song Five little firefighters. We then reminded ourselves of Moby and sitting well so we listen and learn.
