This morning at welcome time we were focussing on our learning of shapes. The children are doing really well at talking about 2D shape properties so much so that Mrs Blain said they may be moving onto 3D shapes soon. Wow well done boys and girls. We then went outside to see how dark it had become due to the eclipse.
We were split between the two rooms this morning.
In the mid-hall Mrs Blain was making rainbows out of skittles...the children had to choose the correct colour order and using their numeracy skills count out four or five skittles of each colour into their cup. The skittles were then melted and made a fantastic rainbow. The children really enjoyed this. The water tray was set up with shaving foam in it, the construction straws were out which a lot of children made umbrellas and shapes with. The care and garage were out along with the fire engine.
In the crèche room Mrs Brown was working on recognition of syllables in the children's names. They all took turns and had to use a drum to 'sound' the syllables. They then used their voting sticks to place on the correct number of syllables in their name. The dinosaurs were out, the teddy bear lotto game and the giant solar system floor jigsaw. Mrs Winsley was helping some of the children find and choose a weather related colour in picture on the internet that were printed off. Some of the children had time to colour theirs others unfortunately didn't.
Snack was slices of French baguette with cheese, apples and pears along with milk or water to drink.
Instead of a story today the children were watching a video on the Hudl about how a rainbow is formed and they learnt that white light splits into seven colours when it hits the water droplets.
For physical time Mrs Blain made a rainbow web which the children had to climb under and over.
Have a great weekend everyone.
