Today in nursery there was lots of fun and learning going on! In our messy area we had foamy bubbles in the water tray with ducks and boats, we were learning all about floating. The coloured rice in the sensory tray was great for practicing our writing skills and on the maths mat we had dominoes, the giant buttons and the balancing scales. It was fun guessing how many buttons it would take to balance the scales! On the floor we had the castle and knights, cars and garage, zoo duplo, stepping stairs, balancing beams and lots more!
Miss Smith and the children got to work in our new 'Space'floor book! Today they were discussing and drawing pictures of planets. Ros told us the sun is sad when it's raining! Matthew told us the sun gives you light and it has gas in it, and Leon drew a picture of Earth, telling us "That's where we all live"!
Snack was wholemeal toast with butter or cheese, strawberries, bananas and a choice of milk or water to drink. The children spread their butter or cheese all by themselves. Our boys and girls at Stonelaw Preschool are very independent!
Sasha from Childsmile was in this morning to help the children brush their teeth. She said all our boys and girls are wonderful at brushing their teeth.
This week we are focusing on reading throughout the nursery. At the writing table some of the children were doing word searchers made up of all the boys and girls names. They were super at this and could find and read their names as well as some of their friends names!
Some children enjoyed playing with the spelling puzzles, they were building their knowledge of the link between letters and words.
Mrs Brown and the children were 'reading' the Golden Rules out in the corridor. The new children were learning from our older children, they drew some fantastic pictures of walking feet, kind hands etc, to add to our display!
Mrs Black had some great wrapping paper in with her today, the children practiced their scissor skills on this and cut out some lovely shapes.
At Get Together Time Mrs Blain and the children practised some of our Makaton signs that we are learning and used Makaton signs to sing some songs! Mrs Blain also read a story called Alien Tea on Planet Sum Zee. The children found this very funny, but didn't fancy the wobbly jelly that was purple and smelly! Some of the children noticed that this was a rhyming book and could identify the words that sounded the same.
Before home time we listened to Oscar's Show and Tell. He brought in a fab remote control car that could climb up the walls. He told us it was from Santa and it had a number 3 on it!
See you all tomorrow!
