At Welcome Time Mrs Black talked to the children about our special mission today - a trip to Overtoun Park to see what different bugs we could locate. Although the sun was shining the children knew to wrap up well because it can still be quite cold in Springtime. The park was lots of fun, we split into three groups and the insect hunt began. We had brought along magnifying glasses, binoculars and bug catchers to help us inspect our findings closer and clipboards, paper and pencils to record our discoveries. We looked under stones, in tree roots, in amongst the bushes, under the autumn leaves, under the bark and found a few cobwebs, a tiny slater, some mushrooms, two slugs one worm called Rainbow - I think it must be too cold for the insects to come out yet! The children didn't mind though and they all had a brilliant time stomping about in the mud (many apologies for the shoes and trousers).
We headed back to the nursery just in time for a tasty snack of bread and butter, apple, oranges and salami and the children were all very hungry after their outdoor adventures.
A huge thank you to our fabulous parent helpers today, Finlay and Mack's mums. Without your help we wouldn't have been able to have our outing and you are very much appreciated. See you all tomorrow.
